I recently had opportunity to have a professional headshot taken in the Rose Seminar Room, where I was also able to speak with an SA and other fellow Rose Scholars concerning career paths after Cornell. As a junior, the time when I need to decide what to do after Cornell, if only for the short term, is rapidly approaching. I found the event was an excellent wake-up call to the fact that, even though I have an idea of what I want to do already, and even a plan to achieve it, I still owe it to myself and my parents to fully explore every option available, since the optimal path (if there is such a thing) may be something I haven’t even heard of yet.
Sometimes I think I know exactly what I want to do after college but at the same time, I don’t even know if it’s exactly what I want to pursue. I feel as students we feel some sort of pressure from every direction so it is important to find our passion and go into a field that aligns with that. We forget how young we are so one dead-end can lead to a path we yearned to come across.
I would love for there to be a career path that I haven’t heard of, that’s optimal, that just sort of pops up for me soon. I like to keep my avenues open for that reason, because it isn’t out of the realm of possibility!
If I get too attached to any specific ideas, I might miss out on that career path, so who knows. Maybe being carefree about the future is a better way to get there.
