Hello all!

This is a reminder that the final add deadline for MAE 1900, 4291, 4900, [and 4980-TAing for credit] is Friday Oct 1 at 11:59pm on StudentCenter.

StudentCenter requires a permission number to enroll in the above courses. You can only receive a permission number by submitting your MAE 1900/4291/4900 online form. Your MAE faculty research advisor must then follow the link in their email to approve your form, which then shoots off to Ashley to send you a permission number to enroll in StudentCenter. The MAE Undergrad Office closes at 4:30pm on weekdays, which means Ashley is not sending out permission numbers at 5pm, 8pm, 11pm on October 1st. So please submit your online form as soon as possible.

If you have already submitted your online form but haven’t received a permission number yet, please follow up with your faculty research advisor to make sure they have opened the email and approved the form.

The Engineering Registrar’s Office WILL NOT be approving any petitions to add late. If you do not complete the above steps in time, if you forget to enroll in StudentCenter, you will be considered a volunteer for the semester.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,
Kae-Lynn Wilson

Hello!

My name is Drew, and I graduated from Cornell University this past May. I wanted to reach out to tell you about the information session Air Products is hosting tomorrow night, September 1st, at 5pm.

Air Products is hiring for our summer internship and full-time Career Development (CDP) program. Come learn about how we’re providing industrial gases that benefit the environment, enhance sustainability, and address the challenges facing customers, communities, and the world. Our company goal while doing so is to be the safest, most profitable, and most diverse industrial gas company. Beyond talking about our goals and our products, we’ll have Cornell alumni who are in –or have been through—our CDP program share their experiences with the company.

Please visit and apply for the positions on airproducts.com/careers. We’re specifically hiring chemical and mechanical engineers for the following positions:

Please join our information session using this link: Click here to join the meeting

You can also find the information session on Cornell AIChE’s Facebook page.

Hope to see you there!

MAE FA21 TA and Grader Positions Available

If you’d like to be considered for a Teaching Assistant or Grader position, please fill out this google form as soon as possible: https://forms.gle/TpjVuisCELoA4dzD9

Mechanical Engineering majors may use their work as a TA to count for credit, which can fulfill an Advisor Approved elective requirement (contingent on advisor approval). TAs and graders average no more than 10 hours of work per week (fluctuations in the workload will occur throughout the semester, but should not average more than that). Students who receive offers for TA positions should plan on being asked to offer office hours, lead discussion or lab sections, and possibly assist with grading. Additional specific or alternate TA tasks are decided by the instructor. TAs should plan to be available at least a week before the start of the semester through the grading of final exams. Students who receive offers for grading positions will only be required to grade; no other TA tasks are required.
TA’s and graders are required to attend a half-day training offered by Engineering Learning Initiatives.

Grader positions are offered at a paid hourly rate.
TA positions must be taken for credit if it is your first time TAing for MAE, otherwise they can be for credit or at a paid hourly rate. Please note that due to Covid-related budget cuts across the university, first preferences will be given to students who are willing to TA for credit.
More TAs will be hired than Graders this fall due to the possible increase in help professors will need.

There is no formal application process for a TA or grader position; you need only fill out the google form with the information requested in it. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Courses being offered in the fall that may need TA/Grader support:

ENGRD2020 Statics and Mechanics of Solids

Graduation Audit Meetings and Commencement

Good afternoon!

To my MAE juniors: it is time for a graduation audit meeting! This is required. Let’s make sure you are on track and verify your completed requirements so far. You can make a half an hour long appointment on my calendar here. Please be sure to include your NetID. Any time not blocked off by blue/yellow blocks is fair game. All meetings will be conducted over zoom, I send a link roughly 10 minutes before the appointment. Meetings can also be held over the summer but don’t wait!

To my MAE seniors: All 3 required “quizzes” are now live on the ME Senior Design Canvas page. Please complete them at your convenience. The first two quizzes are very short- maybe 5 minutes of your time. The final quiz does not have to be completed until you have submitted your final report to your senior design faculty advisor. MAE will have an online graduation ceremony, more information will be coming very soon. Please don’t forget to get your advisor approved electives officially approved, if you have not already sent me an email!

For MAE December 2021 seniors who would like to attend the May 2021 in person university commencement, please see the announcement from the Commencement Office below:

Due to COVID health regulations we have recently determined the following for Dec. ’21 grads to attend an early Commencement.

  1. They can only attend if they are in Ithaca now and in Daily Check and testing program. They will need to follow testing plans during Commencement week.
  2. They’ll need to show that they are compliant with negative testing within 72 hours, of attending Commencement ceremonies, or show Fully vaccinated records of 14 days after receiving both shots or the single J&J shot.
  3. Wearing the academic regalia is required to attend Commencement ceremonies.
  4. Students must order Cap & Gown NOW to be shipped directly to them as we will not have on campus distribution,
  5. Their name will NOT be in the program at the stadium, it will be in next year’s program.
  6. They will NOT receive automatic communications so will need to refer to the Commencement website for information.
  7. They must wear a mask at all events on campus and in the stadium.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Kae-Lynn

Please Welcome Ashley Blank to MAE

Good afternoon, everyone! I am excited to finally share that MAE has hired another full time staff member in the MAE Undergraduate Office! We are so excited to be at full power again and provide you the support you deserve. Below is a short blurb about Ashley, as well as a zoom invitation if you’d like to drop by on her first day this Monday to say hello! If you’d like to send her an email, her netID is ab2224@cornell.edu.

Hi Everyone! My name is Ashley Blank and I am excited to be joining MAE as the Assistant Undergraduate Coordinator.  I am a native-Kansan who made their way to Ithaca in 2009, along with my husband, Bryant.  We have two beautiful children, Ella (9 yrs) and Harper (6 yrs), and a zoo of animals including our newest, a 10-month-old German Shepherd named Luna.  I have a background in education and love working and helping students.  If I am not working you can usually find me singing, binge-watching shows and movies, and hanging out with my family.  Food is the way to my heart – especially iced lattes, ranch dressing, and anything that includes gravy.  I am a naturally social person so I look forward to getting to meet everyone.
