Morning Brew: : Tree Fruit Pest Management Conversations via Zoom. Tuesday, 6AM, June 1st, 2021

Hudson Valley Research Laboratory entomologist, Peter Jentsch, friends and guests invite you to join in discussions on Tree Fruit Pest Management from 6-7AM each Monday morning through the season via Zoom. The Zoom meeting site will open at 5:45AM for you to link into the meeting and get your coffee. We’ll start the agenda at 6AM.

Join in or simply listen to whats ahead form the coming week.

-Recent weather, forecasts, tree phenology
-Application windows, pest management scouting, models for predicting management.
Diseases: Secondary scab, powdery mildew, black rot, fireblight
-Crop Load: Varieties at > 15-18mm

-Insect insect life stages & management during early petal fall:
* Codling Moth Emergence @ 250DD (May 28th)
* 1st Dogwood Borer Flight
* Black Stem Borer
* Rosy Apple Aphid, Green Aphid Complex
* Obliquebanded Leafroller
* Wooly Apple Aphid & San Jose Scale @ 2C

About Peter J Jentsch

Peter J. Jentsch serves the mid-Hudson Valley pome fruit, grape and vegetable growers as the Senior Extension Associate in the Department of Entomology for Cornell University’s Hudson Valley Laboratory located in Highland, NY. He provides regional farmers with information on insect related research conducted on the laboratory’s 20-acre research farm for use in commercial and organic fruit and vegetable production. Peter is a graduate of the University of Nebraska with a Masters degree in Entomology. He is presently focusing on invasive insect species, monitoring in the urban environment and commercial agricultural production systems throughout the state
