Ever since the creation of social media platforms, I’ve always been curious how we are connected with friends and build our followings. According to sprout social, there are many varieties of instagram’s algorthm, but it essentially looks at your interests, timeliness, relationship, following, and usage, to determine the content to promote and the people that engage with it. This means that in order for you to gain more followers or get more likes on posts, you need to be active and consider posting content that may stimulate what was said above. Things, such as publishing consistent stories, post quality photos, go live often, craft compelling captions, are all ways that someone can improve their network and have a larger influence on the platform.
This connects with what we learned with strong triadic closure and balance theorem. Essentially, the more people you connect with, the more people you will be acquaintances with and grow your network. We learned in class that if you were friends with 2 other people, the likelihood of them becoming friends is very high. This idea is very prevalent in social media since its all about connecting with people you may not be too familiar with to improve your connections and build stronger networks. Social Media is a strong tool in today’s society and using our knowledge in networks and how these platforms promote content can be helpful next time we decide to be active on the apps!
