The triadic closure and collaborations between airline companies
In order to understand our marketing today we have learn about the big companies and their selling strategies. A very important strategy is the collaborations between companies. A field where we meet this type of strategy is at the airline companies. Every large airline company communicates with the others about the price of fuel, number of passengers or the price of the tickets. It may seem funny but there are friendships between companies exactly like in the daily life between people. One way for a company to know another one is through a common friend.
The triadic closure is used mainly to increase to the social network. Basic principle: if 2 people in a social network have a friend in common, they are likely to become friends in time. This principle is also used by Facebook. This principle comes from the fact that an edge(EF edge for e.g.) has the effect of “closing” the third part of the triangle. Many times we could find connections that have been created in time, and the main explanation is the Triadic Closure.
The connections between airline companies is very common, because I saw a lot of collaboration between the largest airlines like Delta and Air France. The triadic closure appears when a company has more connections with other, and they are becoming associates over time. For example if Lufthansa has connections with Austrian Airlines and KLM , then Austrian Airlines and KLM are likely to associate in time.
A great example of collaboration between the airline companies is AIRE(airlines international representation of Europe), a network where every airline knows the others. Most likely this connection between created in time by one larger company having friends or interest with smaller ones. Some very important members of this association are LOT, Atlantic airlines and even Turkish Airlines.
