Our Little Grewve – A Regenerative flower farm in Hermon, NY

The CCE Local foods team recently visited Our Little Grewve, a new farm in Hermon. It was a pleasure to learn more about their operation and offer a free professional photo shoot as part of our Farm-to-Table Initiative. Catch a glimpse of the farm through the camera lens.

When visiting Our Little Grewve you might think the farm has been established for years. In reality, owners Elizabeth Seeley and John Anson are just in their second season of producing flowers and produce.

Their self-serve farmstand at 2202 county route 21 in Hermon greets you when arriving and is stocked with single stems, bouquets of flowers and fresh vegetables.

Garden beds with mulched pathways dot the property with flowers in full bloom or ones waiting for their turn to pop There is also a greenhouse that they added this past winter, which has helped with starting plants early and having a nice warm place to get their seedlings established. June Fruition Showcase

Are you one of the 600+ viewers who saw the June Fruition Local Food Showcase online? It’s an amazing time of year for food grown or made in our region and our livestream shines a spotlight on three unique food producers each month.

The June edition featured Daniel Martin of Martin’s Farmstand in Potsdam, Matt Martin of M & M Eggs in Massena, and Alicia & Josh Taillon of The Blue House in Madrid.

Daniel and Mendy Martin started with a you-pick berry patch in 1998 and now, 20+ years later, has a full complement of items from their homegrown vegetables to meat, maple and more sourced from other area growers they know and trust. In our conversation, Daniel elegantly explained how a food system only works if both the growers AND the eaters are dedicated to each other. We created a snippet of his interview. Meet the Local Foods Team: Lauren Olson

Tell us about your role on the local foods team. 

My role is working with food producers and food entrepreneurs to help with their marketing strategies. I started this position in April of 2021 and I am interested in learning what services I can offer to farmers and food producers that would be of most use to their business. Currently, I am working on educational materials that would be helpful to producers as they’re scaling up their business. In addition I promote consumer education surrounding local foods to help spread awareness of the delicious bounty we have here.

So you could meet one-on-one with a producer that’s trying to change something about their business, for example.  

Yes, I help educate farmers and food entrepreneurs about marketing tools. It could be anything from discussing E-commerce options for online stores, advising on websites and social media accounts, giving input on logos or accessing new markets.

I think the reason I like marketing is because it is about supporting your local network of consumers and producers and a lot of good can happen from that. Especially when it comes to food since we all need to eat and it’s a great way to invest in your community.
