National Nutrition Month® 2019

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy, for short) is a national organization of Registered Dietitians from all over the country. They are the experts for all things nutrition!

The Academy has declared the whole month of March, National Nutrition Month®! During the month, the Academy promotes a nutrition message to remind and encourage people to make healthy decisions about food and physical activity. National Nutrition Month® themes in the past have been “Put Your Best Fork Forward” and “Go Further with Food” to remind us that the food we eat impacts our health and every bite counts. Small improvements add up to big benefits.

This year the Academy is focusing on healthfulness overall by promoting healthful eating and building up to the recommended amount of physical activity. National Nutrition Month® is the perfect time to explore new foods and their health benefits across all food groups. Practice good food safety skills and stir up your favorite activities that get you moving! Remember: being mindful about all of this can be simple. Start with small changes until they become habit.

Registered Dietitians, or RDs for short, are credentialed nutrition experts. Some things an RD can support you in:

  • Achieving a health goal through nutrition and exercise
  • Losing or gaining weight
  • Managing diseases like diabetes or hypertension
  • Learning how to practice better food safety

There are many reasons meeting an RD would be useful. Find one near you and see what they can do for you!

Join us at Day to Day Eats this National Nutrition Month® by setting a goal for yourself for the month of March! My goal for this year’s National Nutrition Month® is to get 30 minutes of exercise at least five days out of the week.

Here are some ideas of goals you may want to set for yourself:

  • Eat a serving of fruits and vegetables at each meal
  • Transition dairy products to low-fat or fat-free options
  • Replace sugar-sweetened beverages with water or low-fat milk
