Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell University is excited to welcome our 2018 Janet L. Swanson Intern of Shelter Medicine, Dr. Sabine Fischer-Daly!
Dr. Sabine Fischer-Daly received her B.S. in Environmental Policy and Behavior from the University of Michigan and her M.A. in Conservation Education from New York University. She taught Middle and High School Sciences for seven years in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and New York City before going back to school to study veterinary medicine. Sabine received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell in 2018. While in veterinary school she was a director of a community vaccination clinic and did research on the prevalence of Leptospirosis in street dogs on the island of American Samoa. Her areas of interest are community outreach and education, infectious disease and population control.
An avid runner, Sabine enjoys running marathons, and can often be found running along the country roads of Ithaca. In her free time, Sabine loves to go backpacking with her husband and Boxer, Nika. When not outside she likes cooking with friends.
Dr. Mackenzie Gallegos
We are also excited to welcome Dr. Mackenzie Gallegos as the 2018 Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Intern with Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell University! This internship is made possible by Maddie’s Fund. #thankstomaddie
Dr. Mackenzie Gallegos received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Brandeis University. After graduation, she volunteered for the Animal Rescue League of Boston where she was first introduced to shelter medicine. She completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018 and frequently volunteered at nearby Capital Area Humane Society. Her clinical interests include behavior medicine, community outreach, and geriatric animal health.
In her free time, she enjoys clicker training all species and watching the Office. Whenever she can, she returns to her hometown of Friendswood, Texas to visit Sammy, her geriatric Mastiff Mix who became a permanent resident after her parents became too attached while dog sitting.
