Dr. Henry obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She always knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. During her third year of veterinary school, Henry discovered the shelter medicine specialty while she was the liaison for spay dogs with the municipal animal shelter. Henry wanted to learn more about the field and applied for the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Internship at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

I originally thought I wanted to go into oncology so that I could help preserve the human-animal bond and give that animal a good quality of life until it was time for that family unit to say goodbye. Then I learned about shelter medicine and I realized that I could be the person that helps a homeless animal and give them everything that they need to go on and find a family, form that human-animal bond and have that life that we want pets to have.

After working as a medical director in an animal shelter for several years, Henry accepted a faculty position with Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell in 2017.  Henry has a passion for teaching veterinary students, which not only impacts the animals in a positive way but also helps more veterinarians enter the shelter medicine specialty.
