Saliva Detection Kit

This kit was designed under the guidance of one of our most active teachers, Dr. Greg Panzanaro from Averill Park, NY. It was presented at the 2011 Alumni Summer Workshop as a fun and dynamic way to help students learn how even the tiniest amounts of saliva can be detected in samples.
The class will be set up with four stations presenting different pieces of evidence that students will test for saliva: a piece of a sealed envelope, a used water bottle, a cigarette butt, and a piece of gum. Each student will be in charge of testing one of these items following a detailed protocol, then sharing results with the class.
Due to the cost of the materials, this kit CANNOT be customized according to class size. For amounts of materials shipped, please refer to the list below.
This kit includes:
- 12 stopwatches
- Universal buffer in dropper bottle (must be kept refrigerated)
- Bottled saline solution
- 12 20-200 µL pipettes
- 6 boxes of P20 pipette tips
- 10 tweezers
- 8 scalpels
- 10 sterile cotton applicators
- 2 vortexers
- 25 saliva test strips
- Colored Eppendorf® tubes
- 1 bag yellow
- 1 bag blue
- Clear Eppendorf® tubes
- 6 cutting boards
- 3 microcentrifuges
- 8 microfuge tube racks
