Pesticide residue analyses

We currently offer a 93-pesticide multi-residue screen with limits of detection <1 ng/g for most pesticides, depending on the matrix. In February 2024 we’ll be updating and expanding the analysis to 105 pesticides. In addition, in the first half of 2024 we’ll be adding a much-needed GCMS analysis for pesticides that can’t be detected via LCMS (e.g., pyrethroid insecticides).

Current sample types accepted

Large samples:

Pollen, bees, wax (ideal weight = 5 grams*)
Honey (7 grams*)
Leaves, soil (10 grams)
Silicone bands (whole band)
Other (contact us)

* about a golf-ball amount of compacted material or tennis-ball amount of loose material.

Small samples:

Pollen (at least 0.3 grams)
Nectar (at least 0.3 grams)
Bee (at least 0.3 grams)
Other (contact us)

Other types of analyses

If you’re interested in LC-MS/MS or GC-MS/MS analyses for something other than pesticides, please contact us about your project. We have expertise with a wide variety of volatile and non-volatile small molecule applications. We’re ready to help you with your new exciting projects!

Sample fees

As a Core Facility at Cornell, we are not allowed to make a profit. Thus, sample fees cover the cost of consumables, machinery, and labor. We revisit these fees every 12 months and adjust them to ensure the facility operates at a strictly break-even capacity. For all new samples received by our facility in 2024, our rates will be as follows:

Updated 105-pesticide multi-residue analysis via LC-MS/MS
Researchers within Cornell University: $40/sample
Clients outside Cornell University: $120/sample

*New* combined pesticide multi-residue analysis via LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS
Researchers within Cornell University: $60/sample
Clients outside Cornell University: $160/sample

All other LC-MS/MS or GC-MS/MS analyses
Researchers within Cornell University: $35/sample
Clients outside Cornell University: $90/sample

Method development for new analyses not currently conducted in our facility
$100/hour
