Targeting Blogs instead of Facebook/Twitter

During the past decade, numbers of social network sites, such as Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter, had been created and many have withered away while only some were successful. Among them, blogging may be considered to be one of the most popular social networking tools considering the fact that it has outlived its rivals and now competing against two nemesis: Facebook and Twitter. This article summarizes that although blogs may sometimes be overlooked compared to other social networking sites, number of blogs around the world in 2011 greatly increased from 36 million to 181 million within 5 years. As I was reading the article, I came to think this could be applied to the class material that we had learned. Bloggers are usually connected to other bloggers which we could say there exists a tie between them(it may be weak or strong) Thus wouldn’t it be more effective if the P.R. department was able to reach and create strong ties with handful of major bloggers who already have created numbers of weak and strong ties to other bloggers? Using social networking sites such as Youtube, Facebook, Twitter as a cost-efficient advertising tool is already widely used by everyone around the world; however, targeting the bloggers might be more cost-effective way to advertise a product.
