January 2022 update from SIPS Director Chris Smart

Happy New Year! I wish everyone a healthy and joyful 2022.

Welcome! Please join me in welcoming new faculty starting this month:

  • Jason Londo, associate professor in the SIPS Horticulture Section
  • Yu Jiang, assistant professor in the SIPS Horticulture Section
  • Dan Katz, SIPS-wide senior research associate

Congratulations!

Faculty Search update:

  • Sustainable weed management – the position description has been approved and we are in the process of posting it to AJO.
  • CALS cohort hire Applications were forwarded to the SIPS search committee, which is chaired by Justine Vanden Heuvel. The committee is reviewing applications and will develop a list for zoom interviews later this month.
  • SIPS Director The process continues to move forward, and my understanding is that nominees are being contacted by Beth Ahner.

Renovation

  • Plant Science Renovation: No new updates – I think that’s probably a good thing!
