Little Getaway

Participating in game night was a fun way to take my mind off of school and relax. It was nice to meet some new people, and play some games I hadn’t played in a few years. Now that I am home in quarantine, I have a better appreciation for times like those. Its nice to be around people and have friendly competitions. I am optimistic for the future, and hope to have many more fun times like these!!!

a new favorite!

‘Eat Drink Man Woman’ was a great film about family, food, love, and life. It was a visually stunning film to watch. It presents a different kind of love represented by food: the food itself is detailed and beautifully depicted. This attention to detail is then echoed by the gestures of love throughout the film. Though food is a universal topic, Eat Drink Man Woman emphasizes the Chinese concept of food as social function, the central place it holds in the formation and maintenance of relationships. In a family that has increasingly less in common with each other, the weekly dinner is a place to come together, and for Mr. Chu to reassert his role as head of the family. This was a great watch, and I surely would recommend!

Great mystery story

The movie ‘Knives Out’ was a very engaging film. I enjoyed watching the film, especially since all the actors did their roles ample justice. The writing was outstanding, infused with a surprising amount of unexpected humour. While watching a murder mystery, I found myself trying to solve the case. The film made a few slight touches on entitlement, generational wealth, and greed. It reminded me of a show called ‘Who dun it?’ that I used to watch with my sisters a few years back. I love mystery stories, so this one was my type of thing to watch. Ill definitely be watching more thrillers/ mysteries in the future and would recommend this one to others!

end of a love story

I really enjoyed Marriage Story. I thought it was a pretty simple film. Particularly, I liked how it began and ended, will the beautiful letters the husband and wife wrote. The voice-over monologues detailed what each loves about the other. This made me think about the people in my life and the relationships I have. Though they argue a lot , the couple recognized each others good qualities; Charlie cites Nicole’s emotional understanding, familial commitment, wide range of skills, personal intensity, total dedication to their son, Henry. It was hard to watch their relationship slowly fall apart, but in the end its clear that it was for the best. Nicole got to blossom as a person, and live her life out the way she wanted to.

Scary Reality!

Reflecting on this movie seems very scary and a little too real. The film contagion parallels the world we are living in right now. Never did I think we would be living in quarantine for this long, or at all. It is important to not take things for granted, and to appreciate the world while we have it. Looking back and reflecting on this film is a very real wake up call. Like we saw in the movie, viruses move fast and don’t discriminate! I hope everyone is staying safe and checking on their loved ones!
