I’m a fan of murder mysteries, so when my roommate suggested that we go see Knives Out as a Rose event I was excited. Granted I had no idea what the premise of the movie was, I’d just heard really good things about it. I will admit that in watching a movie I do take into account the general population’s reviews before committing to viewing a movie. Watching the movie definitely exceeded my already high expectations. I thought it was an interesting take on the whodunnit perspective that many murder mystery movies take. A reverse whodunnit if you will. With the real culprit being revealed relatively early on, it was intriguing following the different interworkings of the family. Overall I thought it was an awesome movie and would definitely recommend it.
“A reverse whodunnit,” I LOVE THAT. I’m also a huge fan of classic murder mysteries. I think the “grizzly murder,” the complicated, “not obvious” culprit, the various, eccentric suspects, the oddball, but sharp detective, and the mysterious, comedic twist are a handful of its fascinating elements. As an Agatha Christie reader, I was recently disappointed by “Murder on the Orient Express” (which was beautifully made, had a great cast, and reflected the book fairly well). It was almost too slow (and I don’t mind slow) and a lot of the comedic complexities were missing. “Knives Out,” on the other hand, managed to do all of this whilst balancing on modernity which was just AMAZING. We should definitely watch this movie again together next semester friend!!
