A Meeting Off-Topic

For some reason, this event didn’t happen as planned. I arrived at the house dinner and there was no one else attending the event. I asked the SAs and even Jeff for directions and they all pointed me to a professor’s table. However, the professor told me they are meeting for an English class but I’m welcome to join. I was lost and went back and forth to check if this is where the event is for a few times, and the final answer I got is still yes, so I joined them for dinner. Everyone knows each other at the dinner table but they were very nice and try to engage me in the conversation as well. I waited for the academic discussion to happen, but it seems they are only there to make personal talks. So I joined vice president Lombardi’s table for discussion on the second half of this meeting. Mr. Lombardi was answering a lot of questions, most of those you already know by today so I wouldn’t bother to reiterate. One thing that came up during the time I was there, which I regret not doing myself too, is thanking and supporting this whole big decision of shutting the school down and moving everyone back home. Someone came to the table to say thank you and he supports all of the university’s decisions. Even though I completely agree with him, I didn’t do this again myself. I wish I’ve done that because back then there were a lot of voices saying it’s an exaggeration (and of course we know it’s not by now), and the ones in charge must be in a difficult position. I wish I took the time to tell there are people knowing what they’ve done is in our best interest and is greatly appreciated.

  1. I completely agree. The decision to close school took a lot of us by surprise, but it was the right thing to do. I appreciate Cornell for sending us home when it did.

  2. I agree with your support of VP Lombardi’s and the Cornell administration’s decision to send students home. I believe we must prioritize public health over anything else. The transition to online education and living at home is especially difficult, given the situation the world around us is being submitted to, but it was definitely a step to take for the overall good.
