On Feburary 7th, I went to the Knives Out showing. As a movie, I thought it was incredible. The story was intriguing, the acting was very good, and the directors were able to incorporate many references to pop culture as well as include scenes with real world issues in them. But beyond this, I found one piece of this movie particularly interesting, actor Chris Evans.
I have been a fan of marvel comics since I was a kid, and its safe to say that I have seen all 22 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies at least 2-3 each. In the MCU, Captain America is portrayed by actor Chris Evans. For years, the only movies I had ever seen with Evans in them were the various MCU movies that Evans was in. I actually knew nothing about Knives Out before seeing it, thus seeing Chris Evans in the movie was shocking to say the least (he’s a great actor I just wasn’t expecting it). As the movie progressed, I couldn’t shake this weird feeling that Captain America was just casually acting in some other role. For some reason, my previous knowledge of his character of Captain America seemingly clouded my ability to see him as any other character.
I thought this was super interesting. I’m curious to see if anyone else has had a similar experience with other characters who appear in two movies, one of which you may be more attached to, as I was with Evans in Captain America.
I’ve only seen Chris Evans act in the MCU movies and in the original Fantactic 4, but of course, he’ll always be Captain America for me. I think it definitely made me biased into thinking that Ransom could be the killer because in the back of my mind I thought “Captain America could never kill anyone!”
It was also very interesting to see Chris Evans in another role besides Captain America, sometimes I forget he is just an actor and not CA! I am also a big fan of the MCU and will enjoy if one of the movies can be screened as a Rose Scholar Event.
I personally couldn’t see Daniel Craig as anyone other than James Bond at this point after watching some of the 007 movies.
