Making Better Decisions with Cheryl Einhorn

This Wednesday, I attended a Rose Café and learned about the AREA Method and how to make decisions better from Cheryl Einhorn. The AREA Method is a decision making strategy that Cheryl created and this method reduces the biases that one can have when making decisions. It was interesting to learn that there is a specific method for accessing one’s judgment and decision because I thought a lot of decisions are made by our own gut feelings. Furthermore, one of the students took an online quiz that Cheryl created to learn about what kind of problem solver he is. After listening to their conversation, I thought that it would be interesting to take a short quiz to find out what kind of person I am and how I make decisions. Besides learning about these decision-making tools, it was also interesting to learn about her undergraduate years at Cornell. I realized that it is important for students to try various fields to find out their true interest in the future.

  1. I agree! I found myself wanting to take other courses that I would have never considered before this talk. I never gave consideration to the opportunities that could arise if I made choices that were not in my plans. I feel like this method and overall way of viewing the world is one that could really help us in the long run.
