Vaginas!

I spent part of my Saturday evening attending The Vagina Monologues with GRF Seema and a small group of fellow Rose Scholars. Bailey Hall was packed with eager attendees, and we were not disappointed — for the most part. The show was fun, informative, thought-provoking, honest, somber at times, and overall enjoyable. I will, however, make the critique that although the cast did feature several women of color, I did not see anyone who looked like me onstage. I saw plenty of my sisters in the audience, but none under the spotlight. The Vagina Monologues is, according to a review by The Cornell Sun, 21 years old. This is only my first time attending it, so I do not know if previous editions of this event featured more women who look like me, but I am curious… and slightly disappointed. Nevertheless, the entire experience was good fun (and trans-inclusive!) and I do not regret attending, and I look forward to seeing more stories from black women in the future — our vaginas have just as much to say!
