Is Grad School the right choice for me?

On Thursday, I attended the Grad School 101 Info Session. I have been contemplating attending grad school when I complete my undergraduate education. However, the Grad School 101 raised some very interesting questions for me. The presenter talked about how finances are going to be a major factor in determining whether or not you attend grad school. However, the thing that shocked me the most was how many top schools will actually pay for you to attend a grad/phd program. For instance, the presenter had all of his expenses paid and even got a stipend each year that made it possible for him to get by. I was very shocked about this information because I always wavered on the idea of grad school based on the fact that I believed I would not be able to afford it. However, now knowing that I need to look for programs at institutions that are willing to fund my education, I am excited for the prospect of obtaining a doctorate degree. Additionally, I was surprised to find that the students involved in the phd program only need to attend classes for 2-3 years and then they spend their remaining years of the program performing research and being a teacher’s assistant for classes. This Grad School 101 information session has made me excited about attending grad school in the future.
