Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Spreading in the US – New York is on High Alert

 

Chickens on green grass near a chicken coopThere was a confirmed case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza found in a backyard flock in Suffolk County February 19, 2022. New York is on high alert and it is time to be vigilant and step up your biosecurity. Poultry producers – including commercial farmers and those with backyard coops – should keep an eye out for sudden high mortality rates and be prepared to report whole flock illness.

Amy Barkley, Livestock and Beginning Farm Specialist with the SWNY Dairy, Livestock, and Field Crops Program, has developed a resource sheet to help poultry producers be on the lookout for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza.
