Black cutworm (Agrotis ipsilon)
We are still catching black cutworm in the pheromone traps across the state. If your corn is between V1 and V6 you should be scouting. Once the plant reaches V6 they do not cut the plants. Check the degree days for intense catches by location across the state below.

Alfalfa Weevil (Hypera postica)
Alfalfa weevil has been reported over threshold in western NY this last week. Several fields were sprayed because they were infesting alfalfa regrowth. In most cases alfalfa weevil has or is near pupation. Once they pupate alfalfa weevil are not a problem for the rest of the season.

Cereal Leaf Beetle (Oulema melanopus)
Cereal Leaf beetle is still causing some issues in western NY. Make sure if you spray use the economic thresholds for the insect pest. You will save money as well as protect the parasitoid that helps control the pest. The parasitoid lays its eggs in the insect and kills it after it pupates. Over time it keeps cereal leaf beetle at low levels. When the pest is sprayed it also reduces the population of the parasitoid.
