Balanced Triadic Closures in Action: How Tesla, Hertz, and Uber Corroborate to Profit from Drivers

In recent years, Tesla usurped the vehicle market, transforming it into one of the most sought-after automobiles. People rave about Teslas’ zero to sixty time, groundbreaking graphic user interface, and self-driving features. How can we forget, its zero gas emissions, resulting in cheaper energy costs? Teslas’ are truly remarkable vehicles demanded at higher rates every year, for good reason.

Due to their high price, Teslas’ are thought to be a privilege of the rich, but with the partnership between Hertz, Uber, and Tesla this may be a thought of the past. Now for $334, if eligible, anyone can rent a Tesla from Hertz, while paying it off at the same time driving for Uber. In this scenario, everyone has something to gain. Tesla is able to sell more of its cars to Hertz while gaining more data for its self-driving machine learning model. Hertz can then lease its new vehicles to potential Uber drivers, through which Uber profits by means of selling car rides to consumers. The renter of the Tesla can make money while enjoying the luxury of driving a Tesla, meanwhile, the majority of the time they aren’t even driving. The way the deal is structured, the more the renter uses Tesla’s self-driving feature, the less they have to pay rent for the car. This is a truly mutually beneficial relationship for all parties involved.

This relationship perfectly exemplifies a balanced triadic closure. A triadic closure occurs when three parties either have all positive connections between them, or 2 negative connections and one positive. In the case of Hertz, Tesla, and Uber, all companies have strong positive relationships with each other and gain from the deal at hand. Arguably, the profit of all parties are equivalent; however, the routes they take differ vastly. Tesla gains the ability to sell more cars while collecting data. Those who rent the Tela’s pay rent to Hertz and Tesla subsidizes the rent depending on how often the self-driving feature is in use. Uber attains more eligible drivers and may boast about its pro-climate initiatives. All three companies procure monetary and business advantages, embodying an excellent example of a balanced triadic closure.
