Game Theory Approach to Impeaching Trump

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2019/09/23/strategic-case-impeaching-donald-trump/

This article describes a game theory argument as to why Democrats should pursue impeaching Trump. This week, news was released about Trump’s attempts to use Ukraine to harm Biden. The article uses a zero sum game theory argument to say that now is the time to attempt to impeach Trump. In this case, the strategy assumes opposing players will try to inflict the most damage on the rest. Your goal should be to minimize the amount of damage that person can do. This relates to Democrats and Trump because if Trump was dealing with impeachment, he would be distracted and would not be able to inflict as much damage as he otherwise would. The article argues Trump would obsess over it and would limit the amount of harm he would then do during that time.

This article is interesting because of its use of game theory to argue in favor of Trump’s impeachment. I believe that Democrats should take more of a look at how it would affect the 2020 election, because from their perspective the most damage Trump can inflict would be a reelection. However, I think the argument is sound because he would be extremely distracted by the threat of impeachment. Also, the evidence may be in their favor, so if they inflict damage on him, he would not be able to do so to them. I am interested to see what happens next, and certainly believe Democrats should use this thought process when considering impeachment.
