Natural Hair Market Prices Hiked due to Increase in Users

In the last decade the number of African American people who wear their hair in its natural curly, kinky, coily state has increased tremendously. The majority of African American women are no longer getting their hair chemically straightened and men have started to let their hair grow longer such that they can style it. This increase has caused the market to change quite a bit, according to those who have been wearing their natural hair for a longer time. We can examine network affects and the market in this case.

According to this article on CurlyNikki, many people with natural hair were shocked to learn that the prices of their favorite products by AfroVeda had doubled due to increase in demand and expense of good, natural ingredients. This is one such example of the market and its prices being affected by networks. According to the writer of the article AfroVeda products costed about $12 before 2010, then suddenly the owner of the company announced that the price would double to about $24. Many were outraged by this hike in prices, but the writer defended the company owner by explaining that she most likely raised the prices in order to keep producing quality products at a reasonable rate. Initially, we can assume that a good amount of people were still using relaxers previous to 2010 (according to the articles linked below, etc.) and only a few were using AfroVeda products. As more and more people decided to wear their natural hair and people began to recommend AfroVeda products, the company’s population grew and there was a much greater demand, which the owner maybe could not have kept up with while selling the products at their original prices.
