Modeling and monitoring how grapevines gain and lose cold hardiness

Eastern Viticulture and Enology Forum
A webinar series from Penn State and Cornell for Eastern Growers and Winemakers.

Wednesday, December 16, 3:00 PM

  • Jason Londo, Geneticist, Grape Genetics Research Unit, USDA Agricultural Research Service, Cornell Agritech.
  • Jim Willwerth, Senior Scientist, Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute, Brock University, Ontario.

For the past 15 years, Brock University’s VineAlert program has provided Ontario growers with up-to-date bud freezing temperatures and guidance on when to deploy wind machines to prevent winter injury. ARS scientist Jason Londo’s research is dissecting processes governing bud hardiness – and resulting in more accurate models to predict bud hardiness from onsite temperature data. During the Modeling and Monitoring How Grapevines Gain and Lose Cold Hardinesswebinar, Jason and Jim will discuss their research and outreach programs and how they can help Eastern growers manage and sometimes prevent winter injury.
