SWD Update – week of Sept 10-14

From Juliet Carroll, NYSIPM Program:

Serious infestations of spotted wing drosophila have been found in late season berries this week including day neutral strawberries, fall raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. High tunnel raspberries are also infested. Weeds with high numbers of larvae in fruit include pokeberry and bittersweet nightshade. We have reports coming in of larvae in cherry tomatoes and high trap numbers in a location adjacent to a tomato field containing overripe, unpicked fruit.

New counties reporting larvae in fruit include Clinton, Dutchess, Essex, Jefferson, Onondaga, and St Lawrence. SWD has been confirmed from traps in Niagara county this week in a stone fruit orchard.
