Asbestos Abatement-B40, B41, and Corridor

From Friday December 18th through till 6AM Monday, December 21 there will be a relatively small asbestos abatements in rooms B40, B41 and the corridor immediately adjacent to these two rooms.  The abatement contractor, Sunstream will begin to set up for the abatement at 3:30 PM on that Friday the 18th.

  • From Friday the 18th through till Monday morning, the 21st, the Library should assume that the corridor entryway to the stacks, adjacent to room B41, will not be available for patron or staff use.  The Library will be responsible for creating all signs directing patrons and staff re  an alternate means  to get to the stacks from the elevator/west stairwell lobby, as well as any other signs to be put up in other parts of the building.
  • Tom Cotton and Ron Clark will assist the staff in B40 and B41 in organizing the moves necessary to accommodate the asbestos abatement, prior to the abatement contractors arrival at 3:30 on Friday, and following their departure after 6AM on Monday (Tom will begin that effort at 7:30 AM on Monday starting in the Copy Center) .  Please contact them for book trucks, boxes, etc.
  • Mike Swartwout and Sue Dre, project manager and project coordinator for the Olin Library Fire Safety Improvements Project (forever more to be identified as OLFSIP) will provide two PDC laborers to accomplish all the heavy moving that is required for the abatement.  Tom or Ron will coordinate the timing for the laborers arrival on both Friday and Monday with Mike or Sue.   Mike and Sue will also be coordinating electricians that need to provide temporary power for the abatement, and a Controls Shop worker to shut off certain ventilation fans.  Tom Cotton and/or Ron Clark will be the contact for these PDC workers in Olin.
  • By noon on Friday, December 18th, John Marmora et al will remove the microforms as outlined in yesterday’s meeting – two presses (SFS) in from the south side of the corridor, immediately to the east of B41, up to the fiche cabinets.  Collection Maintenance will determine where that material will be stored until it can be returned sometime in January (dependent upon the completion of the second asbestos abatement outlined below).
  • Question — Peter Magnus, could Desktop help with moving Robing Messing’s computer sometime after 1PM on Friday, December 18th?
  • Tom Cotton and Ron Clark, working with PDC laborers will also move 7 fiche and film cabinets, and a number of reading tables and chairs,  as outlined yesterday, sufficient to accommodate the second asbestos abatement (as outlined below).   Tom and Ron will coordinate the return of the file cabinets and tables after the second abatement.   Tom and Ron will need to be given instructions as to where to locate those cabinets and tables – Kornelia and/or Barbara?
