Summer 2010 Financial Aid
Experience the warm and sunnier side of Cornell! Summer can be a perfect time to rediscover campus and the surrounding Finger Lakes or take advantage of new opportunities abroad. Many students use summer enrollment as a time to catch-up or get ahead. Continuing students planning to enroll in at least six credits during the 2010 Summer Session or those enrolling in under six credits, but graduating in August 2010 are eligible to apply for need-based loans through the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment. Just remember that in order to register for Summer Session, Cornell Card and Bursar balances must be paid in full. The 2010 summer aid application is available on our website.
Are we eligible for private loans if we are taking under 6 credits. I looked at all the main sites like http://studentloansforcollege.org/ and finaid, but cant find anything, Thanks!
Hello Loral,
Cornell undergraduate students enrolling in Summer Session for under 6 credits can apply for private loans on their own. By choosing to utilize an alternative loan it is your responsibility to apply (most likely with a cosigner) through an outside lender of your choice. You will complete the entire application process and receive approval from them. Please clearly specify the loan period as May-August. During this process, the lender will contact our office to certify the loan based on your enrollment and summer cost of attendance. If approved, the lender will then send our office the funds to credit to your bursar account.

Student financial aid is funding intended to help students pay educational expenses including tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, etc. for education at a college, university, or private school. General governmental funding for public education is not called financial aid, which refers to awards to specific individual students.
