Andie Blaine Chapman
When she first heard Avril Lavigne at age 5, she knew that music would be her lifelong obsession. Now a junior at Cornell University studying Communication and minoring in French, she collects vinyl, sings in a punk band, and enjoys creating melodramatically-titled and eccentric sets as an on-air DJ for Cornell Radio. As a native Long Islander, she loves bagels and driving a little too fast (but has still never gotten a speeding ticket). In her free time, she enjoys reading, whether it’s the newest Patti Smith novel or a good Fiona Apple interview on Vulture mag. She is also a passionate writer, contributing to several publications on campus including Kitsch literary magazine and the Slope Media music blog.

Emily Hurwitz

Classically-trained flautist turned punk music fanatic, Emily enjoys saturating her Spotify page with obscurely-named eclectic playlists. When not listening to “tbt to when moshing wasn’t a public health concern” or “music for hugging a pillow and staring at a wall,” she can be found pouring over books in the corner of Lincoln Hall’s Sidney Cox Library. As a Psychology and Music double major, Emily is researching the role of music in social settings and investigating how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected music listening niches. For Emily personally, the COVID-19 pandemic has derailed the music taste she once proudly boasted — who said you can’t put Dido’s Lament on the same playlist as hot girl bummer?

Jon Donville
Lover of The School of Rock, Alicia Keys, and Thunderstruck. Above average recorder player in the third grade. Elite air guitarist. I study Government and History, and I am pretty sure I am going to graduate in May. Stay tuned to find out!

“I don’t know anything about Music. In my line you don’t have to” – Elvis Presley

Patricia Ku
A classically-trained violinist and pianist studying hospitality and minoring in music who dabbled in acoustic guitar this past summer…does stumbling through Harry Styles’ Two Ghosts count? Somehow managed to go on tours to Stuttgart and Taipei with her orchestra, but in this now pandemic-ridden world, has shifted to an 8-person, socially-distanced string ensemble that plays on Cornell’s Arts Quad and is loving it. She’s an upsettingly huge Broadway fanatic. It’s literally impossible for her to listen to a musical playlist in silence. Favorite place to listen to her bops? The kitchen.
Lynn Hong
…once went to a Gregory Alan Isakov concert where someone yelled yeehaw, and she has not been right since. The Spotify algorithm hates that she crams anything from jazz to indie in Mandarin, Korean and English into one seven-hour long playlist. A sucker for anything with a groove or well-crafted lyrics, preferably both. A Government major in the College of Arts and Sciences. To retain her humanity, she indulges in morose Mandopop.
Aarik Ibanez
is senior on the verge of completing a Sociology major and Music minor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University. He would have done a Music major however, was too intimidated by the daunting theory courses, and so decided to stick to the minor. Despite his fear of writing out the Mixolydian scale, he was still determined to learn how to play the piano and guitar, which was made possible through the wonders of YouTube tutorials. The dream is to be able to turn music into a full-time career in the future, but given the incredibly competitive nature of the industry, chances are remarkably low, which is why he had to stick with a Sociology major.
Spencer Nachman
Enemy-creating resident of New York City as a result of his torturously loud guitar playing, Spencer Nachman ’24 lacks the ability to turn the volume knob to the left. He began playing classical guitar at three years old, but after hearing Led Zeppelin’s ferocity on the radio, there was no turning back. Spencer is an undecided major in the College of Arts and Sciences, and he currently plays guitar in the Trommer Jazz Combo and enjoys playing baseball and running track.
Miles Greenblatt
Lover of live music and mosh pits, Miles’ right ear has felt a little weird ever since the bass hit a bit too hard at a 2018 Interpol concert. That hasn’t stopped him from engaging in constant discovery and expansion of his music taste, and he’s always looking for recommendations. You can find him running promotions for Cornell Concert Commission or struggling to teach himself piano in his room.
Grace Stasolla
Grace is a sophomore planning on double majoring in psychology and linguistics with a minor in music. She has been singing formally since she was nine, and although she loves singing arias, her songs of choice for listening contain much less vibrato. Grace’s all-time favorite songs are “Secrets” by The Weeknd, “Midnight City” by M83, and “Ask” by The Smiths. Her hometown is Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she spends much of her time running unnecessary errands as an excuse to blast Marina and the Diamonds from her car windows

Mia Glass
Mia is a sophomore majoring in Government and Economics with an International Relations minor. Her years of piano playing and passion for writing fired her desperate need to have people to talk to about her musical obsessions (her roommates are tired of her rambles). She spends way too much time on Spotify mixing clashing songs, but you can strike up a conversation with her about any genre of music in any language—yes, she even dabbles in country.

Jonah Levine
You can spot me most days spilling coffee on myself whilst running across the Arts Quad to catch a class. I burn the rest of my time hunched over my guitar, or searching for new music on Spotify. To my dismay, I’ve yet to find a modern band that rocks as hard as Springsteen, but I’m always open to music recommendations (seriously, please send me recs… I love the classics but I’ve just about worn the grooves out of my Born to Run, Sgt. Peppers, and Tommy records).
