Thunderbird allows users to disable the “composition menu” on new messages

This is the first of my posts on foolish and harmful decisions by software developers.

Thunderbird (102.6.1) allows users to disable the “composition menu” on new messages. This removes the “send” button, making it impossible to “send” the new message. In the Windows version, one must hit the “alt” key to display the “View” menu so that you can enable the “composition menu”. It’s easier to fix in the macOS version because the “View” menu is always available in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Is there any good reason why the Thunderbird developers should make it possible for Thunderbird users to hurt themselves by disabling the “send” button? I can’t think of any. This is especially problematic for older users, and could be said to constitute elder abuse.
