Tapping into Resilience

Resilience is defined as bouncing back from adversity and change. Here are some strategies to build your resiliency and your family’s resiliency during this unprecedented time that we are now all facing.

  • How do you currently take steps to build your resilience and your family resiliency?
  • Based on the following information how can you implement these strategies in your day to day life for yourself and family?

There are three pillars to be resilient.

  1. Feeling safe (getting supplies, routines, focus on what is predictable)
  2. Feeling connected (talk to friends, family, games, meals)
  3. Feeling able to self-regulate (stay physical, breathe, meditate, journal writing

Strategies you can control to help tap into resilience:

  • Map out your week include schedules, goals, intentions, meals
  • Nutrition, eat healthy follow my plate model choosemyplate.gov
  • Sleep!
  • Drink water
  • Physical activity

Strategies for families to tap into resilience:

  • Model for children taking care of yourself
  • Refer to 3 pillars with children
  • Talk with them about what bothers them
  • Consciously create time to connect
  • Hold family meetings
