January 6, 2020: Congrats to Sam Barnett for his recent article, “Soil characteristics and land-use drive bacterial community assembly patterns” published on FEMS Microbiology Ecology. He found evidence that both land-use and soil pH are major drivers of deterministic community assembly across the landscape. A really interesting finding was how community assembly interacts with soil pH in such a way that assembly at low pH was more stochastic than assembly at neutral pH. This suggests that selection for acid tolerance may override other selective pressures in determining community composition in a heterogeneous landscape.
December 13, 2019: Congratulations to Janani Hariharan on receiving the MacDonald Musgrave Student award from the Section of Soil and Crop Sciences. The award recognizes exemplary contributions to advancing the disciplines of Soil and Crop Sciences.
