Pasture Walk – Slope Farms – Ken & Linda Jaffe

2227 Turnpike Road, Meridale, NY

Saturday, August 29, 2015

10am to Noon – Pasture Walk

Noon to 1pm – Lunch and Discussion on marketing opportunities

$5 for lunch (please register) or bring your own lunch

Ken and Linda Jaffe have been finishing Angus and Angus/Hereford cross cattle on grass since 2004.  They currently run 40 brood cows and an additional 100 growing stock on 180 acres.  They grass finish about 50 beef each year and have used a variety of innovative marketing strategies in getting them to the consumer.

The Jaffe’s will discuss their use of low cost fencing technologies, daily rotations, and decision making processes that keep their pastures producing high energy forages throughout the growing season and consistently result in a low choice finish on their beef without the use of any grain.

Before the day is done, you will know how and why the Jaffe’s are so successful finishing beef on grass.  Following the walk, Ken will also lead a discussion on marketing opportunities including how he works with other producers following the same grass finishing protocols and his work with investors that are providing access to fenced pasture at reasonable lease costs.

Come prepared to walk the pastures rain or shine.  Please register ahead to allow for accurate lunch count.  Directions:  From Jct. of Cty Hwy 28 and Turnpike Rd in Meredith, travel 1.6 miles west on Turnpike Road to farm on right.  Watch for signs.
