Beef pasture meeting 6:30 pm Monday, June 15, 2015

The Enstron Family, “Locust Grove Farm” will be hosting a “pasture meeting” this coming Monday, June 15 at 6:30 pm at 387 Parker Rd, New Berlin. Approach from County Rt. 18 just north of NY Route 80 in Pittsfield— there is no bridge over the Wharton Creek to  Parker Rd. from Parker Rd. Ext. off Rt. 80.

Cornell’s Dr. Mike Baker will demonstrate cattle grading and scoring, and lead a discussion on beef cattle nutrition and feeding. Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Central NY Dairy and Field Crop Specialist Kevin Ganoe will be there to support the conversation relative to pasture and hayland renovation and maintenance.    Otsego Soil & Water Conservation District’s Bob Weaver will also be on hand to chime in on rotational grazing subjects.

We  will also be able to discuss beef cattle handling set-ups based on Tom’s system, and what is needed to routinely monitor and treat beef cattle.  We will be assembling a nice group of 2014 and 2015 calves to view.

Dr. Baker will be visiting local farms on Monday and Tuesday, the 15th and 16th to assess calves being offered as possible candidates for our pending Central NY Feeder Calf Pool. We are making progress with this optimistic goal.

We welcome all breeders to join us on the 15th to add to, and continue our discussion of these and other beef management practices.

Hoping to see you there!
