Code 42 Backup Software Information

Code42 (formerly known as CrashPlan) provides secure, real-time backup, archiving, and versioning of files for computers. This helps protects users from ransomware attacks and fraud, and streamlines the process of transitioning local files to a new computer.

Important recommendations and tips:

  • Code42 will back up your local folders on your computer (desktop, downloads, documents, pictures, videos folders) but for the most part, you should not save association files to your computer.  Association files should be saved to your association’s shared drive, under the appropriate program folder.   Locally stored documents on your computer should be viewed more as temporary storage for if/when you need access to a file when you may be working offline (example:  a meeting place where there is poor or no internet connection and you need to be able to access a PowerPoint presentation.)
