Wildfire and Air Quality Preparedness Toolkit

During the summer of 2023, New York State experienced some of the worst air quality in the world due to wildfire smoke. Historically, exposure to wildfire smoke in New York has not been common. As the global climate changes, people living in the Northeastern United States may be exposed to wildfire smoke more frequently.  If and when we experience poor air quality, it is important to know what to do to minimize the health impacts for you and those around you.

This toolkit is designed to help decision-makers make informed decisions to protect community health and well-being. What you’ll find here is a summary of answers to key questions many of us have about how to protect ourselves from wildfire smoke. Here you will find important and trustworthy resources and highlight the key points to know.
