We’re still researching this one.

Donald Horowitz ’77 (Floriculture and Ornamental Horticulture) purchased this panorama on eBay and allowed us to scan it.

Shot from near what is now the Biotech Building, the image was created by ‘stitching’ together multiple exposures of the subjects standing in a semi-circle. The left side of the photo looks northwest, the center to the north, and the right side to the east.

Familiar landmarks include McGraw Tower, what is now the now the ILR Conference Center, Bailey Hall (with the original Minns Garden in front along Garden Avenue), the Stone Hall, Roberts Hall and East Roberts Hall complex, Tower Road greenhouse range, Fernow Hall and Rice Hall.

History committee chair Ed Cobb scoured the image looking for famous faces. He quickly found Dean Albert R. Mann — with hat, bow-tie and books — on the far left side of the image.

Mann must have had a sense of humor, as Cobb also discovered him with the same hat, bow-tie and books on the far right side.

Albert R. Mann appears twice in the panorama above.
