SIPS welcomes lecturers YouSoon Baek and Ria D’Aversa

Welcome to YouSoon Baek and Ria D’Aversa, newly appointed lecturers in the School of Integrative Plant Science!

head shot of YouSoon BaekYouSoon has been hired as a Lecturer in Hemp Science to develop certificate programs in hemp production and processing through eCornell. The eCornell programs will be based on courses currently taught in SIPS. YouSoon received her PhD from Colorado State University studying reproductive barriers in tomato and conducted postdoctoral research on sex specific gene expression in Amaranthus. Most recently she has taught courses on plant physiology and cannabis physiology at Colorado State University-Pueblo. YouSoon’s office is located in #114 Surge A.


head shot of Ria D'AversaRia D’Aversa has been hired as a Lecturer in Viticulture to teach in Cornell’s Viticulture and Enology program where her responsibilities will include contributions to existing introductory courses, development and teaching of classes in vineyard management, and teaching an International Viticulture course. Ria earned an MS in Horticulture & Agronomy with a focus on Viticulture at University of California-Davis. She has since worked as a vineyard manager in Napa County CA, on the North Fork of Long Island, and most recently at Hermann J. Wiemer in Dundee NY. Ria’s office is in #107 Surge A.
