Science-based innovation for a changing world

May 2022 update from SIPS Director Chris Smart

Dear SIPS community,

It’s hard to believe the spring semester is coming to a close and I’m gearing up for field season. Time flies when we’re having fun.

Congratulations:

Plant Sciences Senior Symposium will be Friday May 13 starting at 9:00 in room 404 Plant Science and on zoom. Join in and hear great presentations from our graduating seniors (they are an impressive bunch).  Zoom link

Faculty Search update:

  • Sustainable weed management – the search committee has selected four candidates for in person interviews – the interviews have not yet been scheduled. We will post information in Magdalen’s weekly newsletter when it is available.
  • CALS cohort hire – Offers have been made to two of the cohort candidates, and we hope to recruit both to SIPS
  • SIPS Director – Feedback from last weeks interview (with Joss Rose) is due today. If you did not receive the Qualtrics survey, please contact Cindy (ct259).

Renovation update:

The first moves from Plant Science Phase 1 (the West side of the building) are complete. The next set of moves (other labs/offices in phase 1) will happen in June. Actual construction (or deconstruction) is set to begin September 2022.

Commencement: May 2022 commencement weekend (May 27-29) will be here before you know it. Stay up to date on all things commencement here
