May 2021 update from SIPS Director Chris Smart

Dear SIPS Community,

I hope this update finds you well, and looking forward to Spring and Summer activities. I have been spending time pulling weeds in the flower beds around our house and have found it to be quite therapeutic.

SIPS Strategic Plan Feedback: Thank you to everyone who has submitted feedback at Section meetings, by email, and via online comments. View the current draft and submit feedback if you have not done so already

SIPS-Wide meetings with the Director – save the date

  • Faculty, Tuesday, May 25, 11:00 – Noon
  • Postdocs, Friday, June 11, Noon – 1:00 PM
  • Graduate students: Monday, June 21, 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
  • Staff: Wednesday July 7, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Graduation!

Graduation plans are rapidly evolving with the recent exciting news that graduates will be able to invite two guests to in-person Commencement ceremonies.

  • Undergraduate Plant Science Majors and Agricultural Science Majors will be honored in a special virtual celebration to be held at 5:00 pm, Friday May 28th. Contact Leah Cook or Kari Richards for more info.
  • Graduate Students (MPS/MS/PhD) will be honored at the SIPS Virtual Graduation Ceremony on Thursday May 27 at 6:00 PM. Contact Alicia, Josh or Karin for more info.
