The ABCs of School and Childcare Pest Management

Cornell Integrated Pest Management's blog about IPM for schools and daycare centers.

The New York State School Environmental Health Program is a collaborative effort between the NYS Department of Health and over 20 NYS agencies and non-governmental organizations including Cornell IPM. The program is voluntary and provides information on policies and best practices, free resources with practical steps that are low or no-cost, and free technical assistance.

The New York State School Environmental Health Program has been hosting a bi-monthly webinar series (pdfs of previous webinars can be found here – scroll down to Webinars and Presentations.) On Sep. 18th, they will be focusing on Turf Management and Field Safety. Join Cornell Turf Team’s Carl Schimenti, Cornell University Urban Environmental Scientist as he helps schools explore the health, environmental, and safety implications and pros and cons of synthetic verses natural turf.

November 6

And don’t forget to register for the in-person Indoor Air Quality Matters: Engaging Schools in a Dynamic Landscape Conference being held at the Best Western Plus Kingston Hotel Conference Center in Kingston, NY on November 6. Dr. Matt Frye will be presenting on Understanding and Managing Pest Impacts on Indoor Air Quality. We will also have a table with IPM information and some giveaways to help you protect your staff and students.

Registrations for both opportunities can be found at https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/indoors/healthy_schools/. While on the website, you can check out other Department of Health resources relevant to schools including a session on pests and IPM.
