endurance

For the movie itself, I want to quote one of the movie review as a summary: “Incredibly entertaining and inspiring. Amazing to see what the human body and mind are capable of when you push yourself beyond your comfort zone. The film is very well made and provides a real insight into an event most people know nothing about.”

But right now I am going to discuss is, how important endurance is. In this movie, it’s incredible to know that only 12 people success to walk across the forest through 25 years. Everyone has excuse to give up, but only a small scale of people choose to continue with endurance. It reminds me a famous saying: based on the degree of how hard-working the majority is, you don’t have to beat others by your talent. Most of people is not as hard-working as their maximum, so keep-going and study efficiently will lead to success with 99% possibility, even if you are not talented to some extends. This movie motivates me to be a endurable student dealing with finals.

Protect ourselves by welcome Alien?

This movie wants to tell us how important to be a kind people, by showing us how we welcome aliens. But….why human being should welcome Aliens, even without any information about them?! Imagining US’s Custom has been attacked by strange foreigners from unknown country with unknown purposes, what will we do? Defending ourselves from unknown attacks is out natural actions. It’s usual as we will buy a concrete door for house. If we didn’t trust human being, why we should trust Alien? “Trust alien, pls start from dismantling your doors.” But after all, any creative imagination should be encouraged. Besides this unrealistic logic, it’s a good film.

love can beat everything

After watching this movie, the first lesson I learnt is that there’s nowhere without dark side, even through there is US, and 99% people are nice and innocent. The second lesson I learnt is that there is still some hope to accept and teach bad people how to be a nice people, even through to some extend they are evil totally. The third lesson I learnt is that maybe love can move everyone, even through the possibility is lower than what this film shows to us. But after all, it’s a good movie to record the most miserable tragedy happened in 2013, and also salute to those policemen who protect us from injury and darkness.

balance athletic and academic life

I audit the “Rose Cafe: The Student-Athlete Ideal: Academics in the Ivy League”. When coach talked about his personal experience about how those athlete training, I remain myself when I got table tennis training in China. I practice 3 hours everyday after school, and then I hardly had another spare time to do what I want to do like playing computer games. I never stopped training because my parents force me to do so, and at the same time, I have to keep balance between training and study. It’s a tough time for me, but I got used of it. I am so fortune that I didn’t give up my study(because I found I am not talented to be a professional player), and fortune enough to go to Cornell Univerisity. Because of this personal experience, I really admire our athletes, because it’s super hard to balance it. Thanks to the this cafe talk, lets me know on our campus, there are a bunch of students doing the hardest training and studying hardest. Applaud for them!

12 Angry Man

With pleasure on a Saturday afternoon, I watched movie “12 Angry Man”, “tells the story of a Jury made up of 12 men as they deliberate the guilt or acquittal of a defendant on the basis of reasonable doubt, forcing the jurors to question their morals and values. In the United States, a verdict in most criminal trials by jury must be unanimous. The film is notable for its almost exclusive use of one set: out of 96 minutes of run time, only three minutes take place outside of the jury room.”(wikipedia:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12_Angry_Men_(1957_film))

I was moved by this movie, because it show me how people pursue the justice and truth through their endeavor. It encourages me bravely standing back minority people. I wanted to be a lawyer when I was in high school. Because In China, not every people have a clear understanding about their legal right, so a lawyer can help poor people gain the right they deserved. This movie rekindled my dream. I will try my best to realize my dream and help more people.

Before Night Falls

This movie describes a young gay Cuban poet and novelist Reynaldo Arenas, suffered from the government’s double persecutions due to his rebellious novel and his sexual-orientation, and finally escape to the US. In a communist and cultural-conservative country, government can’t stand a different voice towards policy and minority sexual-orientation, and those are the reason for the tragedy life of Arenas. This movie reminds me China, my country not only control people’s speaking, but also is conservative for LGBT people. There is still a long road for China to be more inclusive for different voice. I am willing to contribute to a more various and open environment.

What Happened To Monday?

Seating on a warm chair, I sinked into a deep cold, considering what’s the price to live on the world. This movie fabricated a future where the government limits the born of children, in the name of saving energy and food. Protagonists–seven 20 years old sisters who are supposed to be killed by this policy–for saving themselves, rose a revolution against the government. This movie is educational for me because it revoke me the “birth control” policy in China. I came from China, and my parents, or people around me, have experienced that policy in real life. Everyone has his or her own judgment towards this policy: some people said this policy effectively control the aggressive accelebration of birth growth; on the other side, it brings the miserable moment for thousands of family who have to give up their baby. Also, this policy sparks a global debate about whether abortion should be treated as killing people. In this movie, children were killed when they are 6 years old, but in China, government only charge their parents heavy penalties. I don’t have answer for those question, and I wish I could figure them out in the future.

Difference Between Chinese Medical Care with American

I joined a table talk End of Life Health Care Ethics in Rose Dining Hall. I am so happy it’s my first time join Scholars Program’s event, and surprisingly I learned how’s the difference between Chinese Medicine care as American’s. As International student from China, I thought Medical care shouldn’t be so expensive. For example, in China every ordinary people can afford medical care fee even without insurance: an emergency appointment only costs 3 dollars and prescription for cold is only 6 dollars. Compared with average salary 2000 dollars per month in my city, medical fee is so low. However, in America, things changed. My prescription for cold cost me 30 dollars which is after my insurance 80% covering. Also, every time I made appointment with doctor, I should pay 10 dollars co-pay. After I knew the difference, I gradually know why doctor in America so care about his patients. One of the reason is, they paid more and doctor has more time to deal with individual, and respect to every individual is exactly the return to patients.

This table talk is impressive, and I will join more talking like this.
