Artificial Intelligence

One of the current goals is to create a synthetic human being that would resemble an ordinary person. The movie, ‘Ex Machina”, reminds us of the key feature a person has that is often forgotten when designing an autonomous being.  That feature is the emotional drive each person has, which is also what forms an individuality. This means that pure artificial intelligence will not be sufficient in order to develop a successor to a human. One other idea that has to be mentioned is the risk associated with synthetic creations. There is always a probability that the AI could go rogue and harm others. That is why every single detail has to be taken into account before proceeding.

  1. While in the search for better technology and making lie better humans are trying to create synthetic human beings. But you are right we often do forget that without emotions that these synthetic beings will never be want. And by adding emotions we risk being overthrown. Humans are playing a dangerous game.

  2. Great point — the difficulty of making AI with individualistic emotions / unique personality traits is a really interesting problem. I think the problem is that right now, our ability to program technology that can simulate emotions relies largely on brute-force methods that involve looking at all data. Current hardware just can’t process that much data efficiently — a teen is shaped by over a decade of information and experiences, and it would be preposterous to propose running a program for a decade. If we really wanted to make AI with unique emotions, we would first have to figure out what kinds of experiences/data shape people as they grow and learn.

  3. I agree slightly with out on how AI should be created. Like for a fully functional AI that was kind of make like “God” we need to like actually test. For something small, we don’t really need it to expect us to take over the world or something. People kind of panic when its something small like Starcraft AI and its kind of weird overall where it comes from
