This entire movie is a musical masterpiece. The beginning is all smooth, more or less happy tunes. Makes you feel that everything is going to be great. Soon the music becomes more versatile, the movie brings out the anti-semitism in Poland and the inhuman treatment that Jews had to go through. The music becomes to get more gloomy and more violent with the gunshots and continued violence it moves from the lightness of the beginning to very heavy and emotional middle. Then there is pure silence as the protagonist is alone and scavenging for food. The silence is extremely long, longing the viewers for it to end. But then slowly you hear a single note, it feels fresh again and the long silence converts to a melody. This movie is a masterpiece in itself.
I absolutely agree, with the main character’s profession, and even the title of the movie, there were going to be high expectations for music in the film. They more delivered and often seemed to weave soundtrack with what the character himself was not only feeling but in fact playing himself. It was very interconnected and gave the movie depth.
I really enjoyed the movie too and felt the same way. I thought the soundtrack and musical theme also paralleled the story really well, ultimately making for a great film.
