Wednesday night was an informative evening as I learned about the current political landscape. Voting is one of the most important civic duties of American citizens but the number that show to the polls is pathetic. The least represented demographic is the younger age generation, those more likely to lean left and have more progressive viewpoints. But these viewpoints are less likely to be represented. This midterm election is likely to be one of the pivotal moments in the countries’ history given the current party polarization and polarizing president. If all of our age group and were to vote and make our voices heard, this midterm election could change the Republican hold on the House and Senate and challenge the rather controversial policies of the White House.
I agree with you that it’s important to increase youth voting numbers in the United States. Uber, for instance, developed an innovative method that wants to try and get more people to the polls – https://www.uber.com/newsroom/drivethevote/
Accessibility is key, and Uber is just one of many companies trying to press on this idea. You’re right in that there’s a Republican hold on the House and Senate that needs to be challenged – hopefully, we can see a change in our Congress through the midterm elections.
