An Intense, Beautifully Crafted Film

I had watched the Pianist in my seventh grade English class, but did not truly comprehend the significance of the movie until re-watching it Friday night. Focusing on the details, I saw the dichotomies between creation and destruction, good and evil, light and darkness, all elicited through the music and powerful imagery of the movie. Although many scenes were hard to digest, in my opinion, this is a beautifully crafted movie that touches one’s soul and evokes deeper discussions amongst individuals. Being more mature than I was in seventh grade, I was able to gain more from this movie. I’ve learned that we must openly talk about history, no matter how morbid and appalling the past is, in order to prevent any modern-day manifestation of such events. I’ve learned that not everything is simply black and white, but that there are many complexities behind each situation, and we must learn how to decipher such complexities in order to better understand how we as a society can be grow while maintaining righteous morals. Overall, I believe this is a must watch movie, that is best followed with an analytical conversation with family or friends.

  1. To sit and watch this movie in its entirety is extremely difficult because the amount of emotional pain you feel and see is truly difficult to tolerate and bear. We don’t seem to realize the significance of the past but as you said, revisiting the past is the only way we can successfully learn from it and understand the implications of it. This movie really tries to show such a dark time in history in the most accurate and truthful portrayal and it does an amazing job genuinely and I was impacted greatly after watching it. Yes discussion is definitely key to understanding and fully analyzing the messages the movie is trying to portray
