STEM industry is an industry that heavily dominates by males. Over 60 percent of employees are male in the top tech companies. I learned that more women with a stem degree go into healthcare and education industry rather than stem industry. After the table talk discussion, I feel like women should be more proactive when experiencing sexism at the workplace. On the other hand, the men need to think twice before they speak something out loud in the workplace. Another action that companies should take is to give leadership position to more women. Therefore, women can have a stronger voice in the company.
I agree with your overall message and similarly believe that women should have bigger roles within the STEM industry. Diversity of thought, skill, and perspective will undoubtedly improve any company. However, despite what outsiders may see, it is often difficult for women to be more proactive against sexism in the workplace. Persisting stereotypes and unconscious biases act as daunting obstacles that society as a whole, not just women or minority groups, must work to overcome. Female are unfortunately raised within a society in which the norm is for girls to avoid a STEM field. This is a shame. I do sincerely hope that, one day, women will be able to show their stronger voices within the STEM industry.
I also agree with the message. In particular, women from disadvantaged backgrounds are particularly subject to prejudices and greater obstacles, and the relative lack of their voices in STEM is a dramatic gap in the academic and STEM community today.
I agree with your overall message but I must bring up the question of whether or not these institutions have even laid down the framework for women to be more proactive when experiencing sexism because based on my observations, people stay quiet because they feel like they don’t have a voice or even if they do voice their problems, no one will pay it any mind.
