I had the opportunity to learn about making good lasting impressions with two of our GRFs, Shiv and Sabrina. This event entailed getting our headshots taken and asking any questions about the career world that we possibly had. I absolutely enjoyed the event because I was able to network with our GRFs and take multiple pictures, some of which came out silly. It was a lot of fun interacting with other Rose residents who were pursuing other career and life goals. I found it remarkable to see how diverse everyone’s interests here at Cornell are and to learn that regardless of the career, all employers look for the same thing in applicants. This definitely made me hopeful towards my future.
The biggest takeaways from this event for me was
- always add a personal touch so you become more than applicant for the recruiter
- dress professionally yet comfortably so that you are able to leave a good impression without being bothering
- you are worth more than a piece of paper so make sure your personality shines through
