Cornell Club of Maryland: Shinrin-Yoku: The Art of Japanese Forest Bathing

On Saturday, November 4, the Cornell Club of Maryland took advantage of our unseasonably warm and sunny autumn weather to experience Shinrin-Yoku: The Art of Japanese Forest Bathing, on the Saw Mill Branch Trail of Patapsco State Park. Using a private trail access at the home of CCMD president Jenn Taylor ‘99/’00, we spent two hours leisurely exploring along the river. Laura Falvey ‘85, a certified guide with the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy, helped us to engage our senses and appreciate the benefits of being immersed in a natural environment. We slowed down and spent mindful time in nature, which we all agreed was a much needed rejuvenation of our spirits and peaceful excursion from our daily lives. To close our time together, we enjoyed a tea service beautifully crafted by Laura and homemade chocolate chip banana muffins baked by Jenn.
